G.I. Joe (Super7) (Super7)Yo Joe! It took me a while to complete the first wave of Super7's G.I. Joe Ultimates, and I recently got my hands on most of wave two. It's a good thing I held out a bit, since I was able to grab them for less than $22 each. May as well discuss these, starting with Flint.

As seen in wave one, Super7 did a pretty good job nailing the character designs from the Sunbow cartoon, and Flint is no exception. He bears a stoic, serious look, and it's accurate to the animation. Alongside it are a slightly smiling head with the beret as a separate piece, and a head talking into a headset. Unlike Duke from wave one, Flint's skin tone on the head isn't painted (it was supposed to, but something changed at the factory I guess), resulting in a glossy appearance. On the positive side, the paint on this bare plastic is mostly clean, and all three expressions look good overall.

Standing a bit above 7" tall, Flint is dressed in army shades of green and brown, and it's fairly good, but there is a bit of bleed and slop here and there, mostly on the silver harness buckles. The belt and harness are both a softer plastic, done mainly to keep them from hindering articulation (not that the belt needed to be a softer material, but whatever). Like the head, the forearms are bare plastic rather than painted, but the skin on the neck and upper arms is painted, contrasting with them. Heck, I don't think the skin tone of the forearms matches the head either. If they bothered to paint the skin or at least give it a matte finish, it would look much nicer.

The articulation is unchanged from the first wave, with Flint getting a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps, thighs, and shins, ab crunch, ball-peg waist, and hinged knees. The joints in the arms and legs work great, and the head gets some decent tilt, but nothing extreme (similar to Duke). The chest and waist joints aren't of much use, unfortunately, as the chest has little tilt back and forth, and the waist is more of a swivel than anything. It's worth noting this wave was manufactured in China rather than Vietnam, which could be why some of the joints feel different. I'm still pretty happy with what's here, and Flint can manage some nice poses.

For accessories, Flint is well-outfitted. I already mentioned the three different heads, and you shouldn't need any heat to swap them, and there's also a couple hands: 2x fists, 2x gun grip (vertically-hinged), 2x wide grip, a pointing left, and a tight grip left (another vertical hinge). The rifle and walkie-talkie are reused from Duke and Snake Eyes, but some new tools and weapons are included, such as a laser pistol (which fits in a holster on his belt) and a shotgun and backpack based off the original toy. Flint is also equipped with a shovel, binoculars, a weird-looking flashlight, and a newspaper. The newspaper comes from the "Worlds Without End" two-parter of the cartoon, and is a nice deep-cut extra with printed graphics.

Aside from a couple shortcomings, Flint is surprisingly good. If you can get past the skin tone issue, you'll find the overall appearance is good, and there's some neat accessories as well. Still, you'll want to get this cheap like I did if you really want to be happy with him.
