Minotaur (Show No Mercy) Slayer (Super7) (Super7)Super7 has been doing pretty well when it comes to music figures lately, with artists such as Notorious B.I.G. and Cliff Burton receiving some of the most well-made Ultimates they've done. One of the latest isn't an artist, but rather someone fictional. This minotaur character comes from Slayer's debut album, Show No Mercy, and whilst done in ReAction form before, the Ultimate saw release not too long ago. Ultimates can have some pretty cool packaging from time to time, and the Minotaur is a good example of such. The slipcover has the Slayer logo on front, but it's stenciled into the back as well, along with various cut out shapes. The pentagram on the window box is neat, and I love the look of the flames on both the box and cover. There's a few ties to snip out, but it's all collector-friendly and easy to get everything out. The Minotaur's design is based off of Baphomet, a deity associated with occult traditions. It's most noticeable in the head, which looks like a monstrous goat, with a star on its forehead and a big flame on top. While the shape of the head is much different from the album cover, it's still a good rendition, albeit a bit soft looking. The paint is decent, aside from a red mark on the nose, and the clear plastic used for the flame is a nice touch. A roaring head is also included, and it looks a bit nicer than the calmer look. Standing about 8" tall up to the tip of the flame, the Minotaur bears a muscular, topless build, with furry legs and tall boots, along with a belt buckle of the Slayer logo. It's more accurate to the cover than the heads, and the paint is good as well, employing wash on the skin and fur to bring out the look more (I assume at some point Super7 will give this a redeco to match the original art more). The cape is soft goods with a metal chain to keep it around the neck, along with an integrated wire to pose it flowing in the wind. The wire tends to poke out of the bottom edges, so don't be surprised if you poke your fingers on it. The Minotaur doesn't move too much differently from most Ultimates, getting a ball-jointed head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, and an ab crunch. The elbows tend to get tight, but everything else moves great, allowing for plenty of poses, and the posable cape helps enhance more dynamic displays. The waist likes to pop apart, however, and it can be annoying when posing him. I would've liked a hinged jaw on one of the heads, since it wouldn't have been that hard to work into the design. This guy isn't too outfitted with extras, but it's enough for the character. Alongside the extra head are five pairs of hands: gripping, vertically-hinged grips, fists, devil's horns, and Baphomet. The Baphomet hands are cool, even though the articulation isn't enough to manage the actual pose. There's also a sword like on the album cover, with "Die by the Sword" etched into the blade, referencing one of the songs on the album. The silver paint could be a little cleaner, but at its size, it's acceptable. The heads and hands swap with no issue, and the sword can be gripped with ease. Even if you haven't listened to Slayer (you should), this figure is well-made and overall cool enough to be worth adding to your collection. Some paint and articulation touch-ups would've been good, but I'm very satisfied with the final product. Hopefully Super7 considers doing more music Ultimates, because they've been killing it with them lately. - 3/7/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
