Baby Sinclair (Dinosaurs (Neca)) Review
Baby Sinclair
Dinosaurs (Neca) (Neca)While sitcoms featuring puppets weren't new, Dinosaurs was the first (though I could be wrong) one to have the whole cast be puppets, courtesy of the crew behind Muppets and Sesame Street. It took me a while to pick the show up, as in, just started it while writing this review, but the show is known for tackling social issues very well for a comedy with people in dinosaur suits. Following their success with ALF, NECA decided to tackle the other popular puppet sitcom. Everyone's been talking about Earl (who I'm currently trying to track down), so I'll be going over the other character out right now, Baby.

The packaging isn't anything too special, featuring stock art on the front, and shots of the figure on all the other sides. The graphics do the job well, including the WESAYSO logo on one side and the bottom. Best of all is that there's no constraints to worry about, with plastic trays holding everything in place, and only a few pieces of tape to remove.

Little Baby Sinclair looks just like the puppet used in show, thanks to the sculpting talent of Eric Barnett. With his big eyes, tiny ears, and crooked, somewhat beak-like mouth, he's quite adorable. Well, for a dinosaur. The skin could use a bit of wash, but otherwise, the paint is very clean, including printed-on eyes. He includes an extra head with a less open mouth, and the horn from "The Golden Child," with a metallic finish compared to the matte figure. The seam lines on the jaw(s) are noticeable, but not a big issue.

At a mere 2" tall, Baby has to be the smallest single-release figure NECA's ever done. That's mainly due to the lower body, since the puppet was designed to sit down. He's dressed in a yellow shirt and diapers, and aside from the seam line on the crotch of the diapers, the outfit looks great. The paint is average for a mass market figure, with consistent color and decent work, but the shirt sleeves suffer from bleed and fuzziness. For such a small character, though, the paint and sculpt are pretty good.

Baby's design limits the amount of joints NECA was able to give him, but he's still very posable. The youngest child of the Sinclairs has a barbell head, chest, and tail, ball-jointed hips, and swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, knees, and ankles. No elbow movement, but that's due to the short, stubby arms, and the rest of the joints have plenty of range. The heads and hands swap easily, and the tail comes separate in the box, but can be popped on with no issue. Baby has a pair of open hands by default, but also comes with a set of gripping hands, as well as a tight grip right and wide grip left.

Since Baby is such a small figure, NECA had to give him a lot of accessories to justify the cost. The high chair is the main piece, standing about 4 1/2" tall with an appropriately prehistoric, rocky look, and comes with a sculpted blanket to drape over the back. Getting Baby in the chair is easy: just lift the tray off the pegs and bring it forward, put Baby in, then replace the tray. Baby has a frying pan to whack Earl ("Not the mama!") with, as well as a baseball bat, wooden spoon, and slingshot for more mischief. He also has a stuffed doll of Barney expy Georgie the Hippo, and three little dinosaur dolls; one a stegosaurus, one an ankylosaurus, and one a… green cartoony dinosaur. The rest of Baby's toys include a baby bottle, a remote control, a bowl, a "caveman cookie," and the Cookie Creature from "Nuts to War" (good thing I researched where this came from, because again, I only just started watching the show).

Sure, Baby's small, but he's big on fun, thanks to the great detail and tons of fun accessories. Combine him with Earl, and you'll have plenty of ways to display him. Hope NECA doesn't go too slow with the line, because I would love the rest of the family and then some.
