Donald Duck Disney (Beast Kingdom) (Beast Kingdom)The one stuck with all the bad luck, cranky and mischievous Donald is the opposite of the more happy-go-lucky Mickey, and has much more personality to him. My favorite incarnation of him comes from the old newspaper comics, and if you haven't read those, I recommend checking them out. Donald's received a couple figures and other merch over the years, including Beast Kingdom's Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure. I've seen plenty from the line, but Donald's the first one I got in-hand, mainly cause I was able to get him on discount. The packaging is simple in graphics, having an illustration of Donald's head on the front of a blue box. Inside is a thick paper insert designed after Donald's shirt, and below that is a tray that holds all the contents in. It's easy to open it up and take everything out, and they go back in just as easily. I don't think the shirt insert is necessary, since nobody will really see it, but it's still a neat inclusion. The likeness on Donald is good, considering he's a simple design. The head's mostly round, save for the little hairs on top, and both it and the beak are molded out of colored plastic. The eyes are larger than they should be, but the shiner finish makes them stand out a bit more, and the paint on the pupils is very clean. The neutral, happy expression can be swapped out for a portrait more fitting to Donald's character, angrily squawking like usual. I prefer this head as the eyes don't look quite as oversized, and the paint inside the mouth is great. His hat fits on both heads using magnets, and it holds in place well. Donald is a 1/9th scale figure, not a scale you see often for action figures, and comes in at about 6 1/2" tall without the hat. The proportions on the body are great, and the articulation is integrated with the design well. The shirt, including the bowtie, is tailored fabric, and it looks near perfect on him. The bowtie is a little crooked, and the collar in the back has a dog-eared corner, both issues I assume are just with mine. The color of the shirt doesn't match up with the hat, but that would probably be hard to do so due to the different materials. Still, having tailored clothing makes Donald feel a little more premium. Donald has plenty of articulation, and is actually a bit more posable than I thought he would be. The barbell head and neck offer plenty of range, and the heads swap easily, though the neck likes to pop out every now and then. The shoulders are ball/hinge joints, and the sockets are designed to extend out a bit, so his arms can cross his body. Revoltech-style joints are used for the elbows, wrists, and ankles, and the ones in the arms work great, but the ankles not so much, due to the design. The waist is another barbell joint, but only the top part of the joint seems to tilt. The ball-jointed hips are mounted on hinges, allowing for more leg poses, and there's swivel thighs as well, but he lacks knee movement, resulting in him having a permanently bent-knee pose. The joints hold well, and allow for plenty of poses. If you want to change up how Donald looks a bit more, there's plenty of interchangeable parts. In addition to the extra head, both heads have different pairs of eyes: one looking forward, two looking to the sides, and one looking up. The faces pop out easily, and the eyes fit snugly behind the face, being held in place further by a slot in the back. There's also three sets of hands - gripping, relaxed, and flat palm - and although they're tight on the pegs, they pop on and off with no issue. Lastly, he comes with a stand featuring a clear blue base and a tall grip that holds onto his body. The grip isn't perfect, but you fit it around the neck or chest for more support in dynamic poses. Donald may not be perfect, but even with the higher price that comes with being an import, you're getting a well-made figure with plenty of extra parts for more fun, and he'll look great on your shelf or workspace. There's a metallic version as well, and the upcoming firefighter version looks pretty neat, but hopefully we'll get a Goofy at some point to complete the classic Disney trio. - 7/16/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
