Tombstone Rock Lords (Tonka)I actually have a piece of the rock this guy is based on. Tombstone is a typical overconfident evil henchman of the 80s variety. He's got style, at least. Carries a scythe and all. This toy doesn't, but we'll come to that. This fellow basically has a little snake head on a long neck, spindly arms, and a beefy torso. Some damn big boots, too. And yet, it feels fairly cohesive. The "robot" parts are a sort of lime green. The deep green and uneven sculpt of the rocky areas are true to prasiolite, which I assume is the "quartz" listed on the package. Articulation, as usual, is a mixed bag. The hinges knees and swivel/hinge hips are decent enough, but the head only has vertical movement, and the shoulders and elbows are both ape-arm hinges, which is a pretty useless combo. The weapon here is The Reaper, an odd hammer-esque device. It's as thin as a wood axe, for starters, and while the ends are rock, the head itself is either segmented or corrugated. Almost like a squeaky hammer. The original use of this mold was a Machine Robo character named Geiger Rock, and the weapon was called The Atomic Death Fork. No prizes for guessing what it does. Transformation is fairly straightforward, of course. Fold the legs, tuck in the arms, and fold down the head and shoulder pads. The resultant hunk of mineral is roughly wedge-shaped, but just square enough to stand on end, however precariously. Funnily enough, I had no idea this was coming. The listing was for one character, but the photos were of another. I figured I wanted both, anyway, but neither of them was this guy. He was on my list anyway, but wow. Anyway, he's got a very good look that's brought down by iffy movement and a goofy lookin' accessory. Good enough to display, but action scenes are out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
