Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) (Toy Biz)Seems like Marvel wanted to make a new team of Avengers to relate more to today's youth (in hopes of selling more comics maybe?) so they made young clones of the existing Avengers, gave them similar suits, and called them Young Avengers. So I guess now instead of everyone assembling in The Mansion, everyone assembles in Iron Lad's basement while his mom goes out to buy some milk. Iron Lad (Really? Iron Lad? Couldn't they give him a less generic name like or Armored Avenger or Red Armadillo of Death?) stands about 6 1/4 inches tall. Tall kid! His armor must be more flexible than Iron Man's because it is form-fitting. Even his metal mask is shaped to the contours of his face. Overall, Iron Lad's armor has the same color scheme as Iron Man's, mostly red with yellow and silver. The armor is well-defined with cuts and angles, ribbings and grooves, nicely made. The four yellow dots on each knee-pad look out of place for some reason. The hip joints are a little ugly, the legs don't swivel at the thigh, and the calves don't swivel either, making for some stiff-legged poses. The shoulders have sculpted armor but they can still move effectively. The paint job is pretty good for the most part but the yellow dots at his ankles might be a little sloppy. Look before you buy if you have the option to do so. Articulation is pretty good and well hidden because of the armor's design. The neck is a swivel-hinge, shoulders are socket-swivel-hinges, arms swivel, elbows are double-hinged, wrists are swiveled and hinged, and the fingers also are hinged. There is a well-hidden pivot-joint at the mid-section that let's this tin-man tilt slightly forward, and the waist is swiveled. The hip joints are swivel-hinges but the part where they connect to the body (the swiveling part) is higher than usual, meaning the legs take a few tries to get used to moving. The knees are double-hinged, ankles are hinged and rocking, and the boot-tips are hinged. Again, there is no mid-thigh swivel which restricts some poses. Above the silver ankle-cuffs is a perfect place to add another hidden swivel, but there is none there either. I suppose robots just aren't meant to dance :( You can only get Iron Lad from the Young Avengers 4-pack Box Set. He comes with a circular base with a picture of his shiny mug on it. I'm assuming he's supposed to be able to fly, so why isn't there a hole in his back to use a clear flight-stand with him? You can always add the hole yourself, of course :)   by Henchmen4Hire |
