Bumblebee Transformers - Classics (Hasbro)This will probably be the first of Transformers Classics figures I plan on reviewing. A neat feature all classic figure have is the heat rub symbols have returned. These figures are a great homage to the original characters that made the series what it is to day, a classic. Bumblebee was the first of the Classics that I picked up, and is my favorite thus far. Bumblebee started his life in 1984 as VW bug. In 1986 he was remade into a throttlebot (pull back and go action Transformer) with a new name (Goldbug) and a gold paintjob. Fans didn't take to this well and was remade again in 88 as a Pretender. Since then Volkswagon no longer gave the rights to the Bug to TAKARA / Hasbro and BB has had no figures made since then. . . until now. Auto Mode: Bumbleee is no longer his former VW Bug self he has since been remodeled as a Mini Cooper. The cooper is detailed quite nice and even has seats that are added for the realistic effect. BB has his classic yellow paint job but this time has some addition sporty detailed hood stripes. The wheel areas have been bored properly s that there is no tire catching when rolling the figure along. An additional piece of equipment has been given with BB and that is a Sea Doo. The SD attaches to a hitch on the back of BB and can be transformed into a jetpack like he used in the original cartoon. This is a piece that was not needed but was an add on for G1 fans. Robot Mode: Bumblebee has been scaled smaller than the other classics figure to match the actual character specifications. BB stands 4.5" tall a whole 1.5" shorter than the others. The transformation is quite smooth and is easy enough for younger children to do, this again is homage to the original. When changed BB has 16 POA. All of his movement is uninterrupted by the bulky automotive sections, thus letting him be posed in a variety of positions. As I stated in auto mode the Sea Doo can be changed into a jetpack as is shown can be attached if desired. BB has had a love hate relationship over the years with T fans but this is one figure that can't be denied as a great sculpt. Packaging: To make these figures appeal to new fans and old vets like myself background data and tech specs have been added once again: <img class="rightfloat" src="http://www.figurerealm.com/Galleries/transformersclassics/Bumblebee-Auto2.jpg"> Bumblebee Autobot Spy Strength - 3 Intelligence - 9 Speed -6 Endurance - 4 Rank - 7 Courage - 10 Fireblast - 4 Skill - 9 "Data is power" Small compared to most other Transformers, Bumblebee more than makes up for it through his incredible bravery and willingness to go places larger robots won't. Capable of aerial and underwater missions, he is more versatile than many other Autobots. His eagerness to do his part leads him to go above and beyond the call of duty, often placing him in grave danger. It is a testament to his skill that he has never been captured. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
