Destroyer (Marvel Legends (Toy Biz)) Review
Destroyer
Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) (Toy Biz)At first glance, okay, it's just a big robot, big deal. But when you've got fearless Norse Gods cringing at the mere mention of the Destroyer's name, that's when you know you've got something good in your hands. I was going to scrap this figure to make a custom but now I don't want to damage it...strange...

This Iron Mountain stands 7 inches tall, he looks like a big muscular guy in skin-tight armor. I caught a glimpse of the normal Thor-buster Iron Man and this figure seems to have the same basic body with a different head and it's cast in black plastic with silver streaks on him to give the illusion of gun-metal. The effect is decent but not totally convincing. It still looks like a black figure with hair-thin shiny streaks on it. There are some round metallic-blue protrusions on the thighs and on the back of the hands, the eye-slits in the helm are the same color. The helm looks like a motor-cycle helmet with a grill for a face-shield and a large plate on the forehead. For some reason the chest area is made of rubber and glued in place. My guess is that it makes the small collar-ring on the front easier to cast. There are grooves all over the body, kind of like Colossus has.

No articulation was sacrificed, despite Destroyer's size! He even still has double-hinged elbows! The joints are tough, most of them are click-joints so they'll never get loose. There is a mid-section hinge that allows for a great range of movement. This is one of the few bulky figures with great poseability, it can even kneel if you want it to! The shape of the helmet restricts some movement though, this figure can't look up, only down and to the sides.

Yes, this figure is rare because it's a variant in the Marvel Legends MODOK Series. Price ranges from $30-$40 MOC, I haven't seen anyone sell it loose, most likely because people who open the package aren't scalpers looking to suck the blood from poor little kids and their parents. :)

The chest plate is glued on because Thor Buster is the body but a different chest piece and head. I want a destryer though. I have Beta Ray Bill and an older Thor, now I need Destroyer. YA know in the commics Thor was in the destroyer armor for a while. Imagine Destryer with a red cape and wings on his hemet...oh and Moljorner of course. Could make an interesting custom or a neat variant fig. Are you listening Toy Biz...oh I mean Hasbro?

If you really want one all you have to do is paint a ThorBuster black and sculpt the face-mask. I don''t know if it has the little hemisphere things but you could sculpt those too. There''s just no justifying the price
