Hawkman (First Appearance) Review
Hawkman
First Appearance (DC Direct)Hawkman / Carter Hall / Katar Hol; Superhero, Reincarnated Egyptian Pharoah, Thanagarian Cop, Archaeologist and Tough Guy. Now offered in molded plastic for the DC Direct Action Figure series Supeman/Batman: Public Enemies. I can't tell if Hawky here is from series 2 or series 3 as the package has both "Public Enemies 2" and "Series 3" printed on it.

Hawkman stands about 7 and 3/4 inches tall from his feet to the top of his helmet and almost 9 inches if you measure up to the top of his wings. Like most DC Direct figures Hawky is great looking but lacking in articulation. I counted 13 points of articulation (that includes the ball joints for the wings). No articulation at the waist at all. The sculpt job is great and the color scheme matches the original character very well. He's all bulging muscles, hairy chest and battle scars with a soft matte finish for the flesh - the interior of his scars are actually a lighter shade of flesh color (nice detail!)-, metallic green for his tights and glossy red for his boots which also have a raised yellow chicken foot design that makes me chuckle everytime I look at it. The paint job is top notch without much sloppy overspray visible to my eye. They did a great job capturing the Ed McGuinness style for this figure. Accessories that come with Hawky are a Superman/Batman insignia stand, cool mace for dishing out the Thanagarian version of tough love and very detailed Egyptian armored glove for his left hand. He comes with his wings unattached - they slip very tightly into 2 sockets on his back and swivel but other than that they don't fold out for "in flight" posing.

As far as use in customizing there's not a lot you can do with this Hawkman unless you're going do a bunch of cutting. His helmet is part of the head mold (boo!) and will make removing the head for use on another figure very tricky. The best addition / fix that could be done to this figure would be some "spread" wings like the ML Angel has.

If you get him for display purposes in your collection, like I did, he'll look great on a shelf. IMHO he's the best looking figure from the Superman/Batman Public Enemies series - all the other figures look like they have badly proportioned arms which is just creepy to me. Now it's time to go get a Dr Light figure and deal out some cruel Thanagarian Justice.

Post some pics of it when you''re done... or better yet - start a WIP Thread!
Wish I could find a set of those coolio Redemption (?) Spawn Angel Wings. Those were the best looking wings I''ve ever seen.

I wish the ML''s were this size with their articulation.
It would be way cooler if the wings were articulated to fold out like he''s in flight.
I got him along with the JLA Classified Aquaman because he was only $9 and the seller combined them for 1 shipping charge.
I might have been wrong about the proportion of the arms of the other figures in the S/B PE Series - it''s the JLA Classified Series that have the weird arms.

None of the DC stuff I have follows the 1" to 1'' scale. They tend to be in scale with the rest of the series they are in.
Even so Hawkman does not stand 2 feet over the Superman or Captian Atom in the book....

I got this one too, I think he''s a bit tall. Last I checked he wasn''t suppose to be over 7 feet tall.
Otherwise hes a nice figure

I have this guy as well. To me the wings seem a little puny compared to the rest of the body, they needed to be fuller
