Planet Hulk (Marvel Legends (Hasbro)) Review
Planet Hulk
Marvel Legends (Hasbro) (Hasbro)Included in Hasbro's first wave of Marvel Legends, is the not so jolly green giant we all know and love. This time he's back with a vengeance as the star of his own series "Planet Hulk". Hasbro hit the ground running with this 7.75" monsterpiece and delivered what looked like a promising future with Legends.

Naturally this was all an illusion. In Hasbro's haste to release the series on time, they failed to create the Planet Hulk with the proper Manacae (that arm armor thingy) and so the first few thousand or so Planet Hulks off the line had two green arms. Hasbro quickly and callously responded to this error by replacing the left arm with a Silver arm molded from silver plastic. Sadly, that's precisely what you get, the same left arm that used to be green but now it's cast in silver plastic. There is no detail beyond the muscular sculpting, nothing that leads one to believe they are trying to create the Manacae that the Hulk is rarely seen without in the comic series.

The overall appearance of the figure is overwhelming. There is enough Petroleum based polymers used in the construction of this piece to justify 30,000 more troops in the middle east. This plastic is not wasted on the Hulk, the sculptors must have worked over-time ensuring all the details were included. Plenty of popping veins, and very nicely done musculature compliment the very articulated piece. The pants are not left torn in the tradition of the hulk and this naturally was a wonderful feature for customizers everywhere.

The head, at first glance appears small, disproportionate even, when compared to the mammouth body. Yet, close examination of the face reveals a very different hulk. This daring sculpt moves us away from the giant, inflated looking human-style faces and presents us with a prehistoric face that captures a forlorn, yet determined Hulk. As you peer into the deep set eyes, you almost see thought, and ruthless cunning behind what has been so often misunderstood as a green Mr. Hyde. When the high plumed Roman Style helmet is placed on the head, it appears in proportion to the rest of the body.

Articulation is fantastic for such a huge piece. In fact, some of the articulation is wasted as physics prevents such a heavy piece from posing too acrobatically. The hands are skillfully constructed to hold weapons and accessories.

Accessories included with this piece are also well constructed. The accessories included are a large Ancient Roman style shield (scutum), a spiked Pauldron (shoulder thingy) and the Really neat feather plumed Roman/Greek style Helm. The accessories are skillfully sculpted to reveal excessive battle scarring, and are molded in a nice conservative metallic bronze color. As an added bonus, the accessories actually FIT onto the figure as though someone had engineered them to. I think Hasbro could have permitted more paint on the accessories to bring out the painstaking detail. Sadly, these accessories are small consolation to the fact that Hasbro got Planet Hulk's clothing wrong. In most of the comics, Hulk has on Roman Style Sandals (Caligae) and a Centurion's Skirt. Hasbro left this up to the figure Modders to remedy leaving more work to do to keep Planet Hulk fans happy than the Customizers can keep up with.

Weapons...uh weapons? Weapons would have been nice, since there is nary a page in any of the Planet Hulk comics where our beloved is seen without one. Hasbro totally missed the boat on this arena leaving it once again to customizers to try and appease the fans creating an armory for the not so gentle giant.

Overall, I am extremely fond of this piece, both for the solidity of it's wholeness, and the skilled sculpting. Out of the package, this piece would do little to appease the die hard Planet Hulk fan, but to a customizer, this piece has a virtually unlimited potential.

I agree, my only real gripe is the lack of weapons. The gave them that huge Roman shield but nothing else. I plan of finding him a sword and spear.
