Penguin DC Universe Classics (Mattel)This us a superbly sculpted figure of the Penguin, dressed in his classic attire. The style he is sculpted in reminds me of Brian Bolland's crisp artwork on the Batman books. The paint job on this is also very nice, in spite of Penguin's clashing wardrobe, this does not come off as too neonish. Penguin also has some nice accents including graduating skin tones and a gold rimmed monocle. This figure is pretty well articulated (in the standard DCUC vein) for a character who looks like someone who is not very active or prone to physical exertion. This figure fits in very nicely to the current DC Universe line and is absolutely a must-have for die-hard or even casual Batman fans. Penguin comes with an opened umbrella with some kind of vague gun-like attachment (removeable) clipped on the inner cane part. The umbrella canopy seems purposed to appear like sheet metal with rivets. In addition, there is the Build-a-Figure component of "Rex Mason - the Element Man", the accompanying piece which comes with Penguin is the head and torso. While I have no intention of buying the rest of series one just to complete this BAF figure, it does have a nicely sculpted bald head that I already have plans in mind for another custom that I may someday make. If I were to rate this figure using the 5 star method, I would say that this figure gets 4.75 stars. This is a great addition to anyone's "Rogue's Gallery". ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That is really bad that Mattel made the Penguin''s torso joint like that. I have also had quality control issues with this line. My Red Tornado figure''s leg broke off and a Batman figure I have has a huge gap near his leg.
Looking at the broken plastic peg, I was shocked that it was only about .4 cm. in diameter! Worse, since I could now see the thin peg''s cross section, it was hollow at the center! To think that the Penguin figure is top-heavy and has a massive belly that it had more room for a thicker peg.
I''ll post some images of the broken part as soon as possible...
